Rich Jerk Tips 1% and Advises Server to ‘Get a Real Job’ via - Eater

I think I would literally snap if this happened to me at work. I think I would black out and wake up in the back of a police car covered in blood.
Serving IS a real job. It’s not a great career for most people, but it’s a job. I pay my bills every month from waiting tables. I’m supporting myself solely from what I make as a waitress while figuring out what I want to do with my life and working for free as C.O.O of a start-up. I know tons of people who support families on the income they make from serving.
I sincerely hope this is a hoax, because this is just appalling. Servers in every state besides Oregon and Washington are paid sub-wages - LESS than minimum wage. Basically nothing after taxes. Tip your servers and tip them well, because that’s all they get paid. You’re welcome to eat at home if you don’t like it.

Hey, rich asshole: fuck you.

My heart goes out to servers. Serving is one of those professions that everyone in the world feels they can do a perfect job (see also: teachers, the President) but in reality, this is a difficult job and most people who aren’t servers would do a horrible, horrible job at.
Serving, like most jobs, is a part of a bigger process that involves other staff members. If you tend to complain about servers, please consider the following before you go out to eat:
1. Your food tasting horrible is not the server’s fault. You ordered that shit from the Red Lobster, blame the corporate recipe that made the dish. 2. The dish you got last time that is no longer on the menu is not the server’s fault. 3. You having to wait to be seated is not the server’s fault. 4. Your food coming late is, for the most part, not the server’s fault. Ever seen Kitchen Nightmares? Shit gets backed up in the kitchen. Those servers push out the food as fast as they can. Why would they want you to NOT have your food quickly?5. Your server has, gasp, more than one table to tend to. They can’t drop everything and fetch you some ketchup when they have 10 other tables to tend to. 6. Your server’s way of supporting him/herself is dependent upon your tips. Most servers make absolute shit per hour from the restaurant. Your tips are where they actually make money.6a. Servers at most restaurants usually “tip out” to the busboys and cooks and hosts. They share those tips with everyone that made your meal possible. When you tip a server 5 dollars, they keep about 2-3 dollars of that. Don’t be an asshole and shortchange the server just because the Meatloaf wasn’t to your liking. It was your dumbass that ordered the meatloaf in the first place.   7. If you’re going out with a big group (larger than 6 people) and you’re going to split the check, please for the love of God tip a little more than you normally would. Splitting checks requires more work and takes more time for the server.  8. The theme here is don’t be an asshole. Are there horrible servers out there? Of course. But if the server looks like they’re making an earnest effort, give them the benefit of the doubt and for God sakes, TIP.
